Less hype.
Better questions.
Practical thinking on AI, software and the decisions behind a better business.
01ChatGPT can produce the work. Who is responsible for the outcome?
+
The competitive advantage is moving away from simply having AI. It now comes from giving AI the right context, connecting it to reliable processes and knowing where a person must remain accountable.
The question behind the hype
What can safely be automated?
Who checks the exceptions?
How does it connect to real work?
What happens when it is wrong?
02If Google answers the question, will customers still visit your website?
+
Search is becoming more conversational and more answers may appear before a traditional list of links. That does not remove the need for a website. It changes what the website must do.
Generic content has less value
A page that repeats information already available everywhere gives a search platform little reason to surface it and a customer little reason to trust it. Specific experience, clear service explanations, local relevance and useful answers become more valuable.
Your website is still the place you control
Social platforms and AI interfaces can introduce your business. Your website remains the place where you control the evidence, the customer journey and the invitation to enquire.
Write for a decision
Answer the real question behind the search: Can this business solve my particular problem, and what should I do next?
Workflow automation
Define permissions, human approvals, escalation paths and measurable outcomes before an agent takes action.
03Before you hire an AI agent, decide what it is allowed to do.
+
Traditional chat tools respond. AI agents can be designed to take steps: search information, update records, prepare communication or trigger another system. That potential makes governance part of the design, not an afterthought.
Give it a boundary, not a vague job title
“Manage our leads” is too broad. “Classify new enquiries, draft an acknowledgement and assign the lead for human approval” is observable and controllable.
Design the exception path
Real operations contain missing data, unusual requests, unhappy customers and conflicting instructions. A good system knows when to stop and bring in a person.
Measure the business result
Track response time, completion quality, rework and customer impact. The goal is not to prove the AI is clever. It is to make the operation better.
Custom business software
Map the requirement and decide objectively whether to configure, integrate or build.
04Do you need custom software or a better setup of what you already own?
+
Custom software should not be a status symbol. It should solve a problem that standard products cannot solve economically or create an operating advantage important enough to own.
Configure when the process is common
Billing, basic CRM, task management and appointment scheduling often have mature products available. Good configuration and integration may deliver value sooner.
Build when your difference matters
A purpose-built system can make sense when your workflow, customer experience, pricing model or information structure is genuinely distinctive.
Calculate the cost of the current problem
Include manual time, errors, slow service, missed leads and the cost of multiple disconnected subscriptions. Compare that with implementation, maintenance and adoption, not only the initial build price.
CRM optimisation
Align lead stages, ownership, data and follow-up before automating the process.
05Your CRM is not failing. Your process may never have been designed.
+
Teams often blame the platform when records are incomplete, leads disappear or reports cannot be trusted. Frequently, the software is exposing decisions the business has never made.
Define what a stage means
Every person should know when a lead enters a stage, what action is required, who owns it and what evidence moves it forward.
Make the right action easier
A good CRM reduces memory work. It prompts the next action, captures essential information and makes overdue follow-up visible without creating unnecessary administration.
Automate after the process is clear
Automation makes a strong process faster. It also makes a confused process fail at scale.
Web applications & conversion
Create a clear path from first impression to qualified enquiry.
06A cheaper website can become expensive when nobody knows what to do next.
+
Modern tools can generate attractive pages quickly. That is useful. But visual production is only one part of creating a website that supports a business.
Clarity comes before design
A visitor needs to understand who you help, the problem you solve and why your approach is credible. If the page cannot answer those questions, more animation will not fix it.
Every page needs a next step
A service page should help the visitor recognise their need, understand the approach and take an appropriate action: enquire, book, call or read further.
The website must connect to operations
Leads need to reach the right person, enter the CRM with useful context and receive timely follow-up. Conversion is a business process, not merely a button.
